Plastics? Ecological!

Plastics from crude oil is a model that is being phased out. Today recycling is cool. Rubbish on the beach, used agricultural film and Coca-Cola caps do not belong in everyday waste. And plastic even plays a role in a sustainable concept that combats food losses in Africa.

300,000 tonnes of mangos growing in Kenya will spoil before they can be sold. Azuri Health has found a remedy. Founded by Tei Mukunya with the support of the Save Food initiative as well as German packaging companies and mechanical engineers, the company dries and packs the fruit. Azuri is now also producing other fruits and building a production site in Nairobi.

Really too attractive to throw away! A few beauty queens may have though this when confronted with stylish but empty lipstick cases or powder compacts. Today there are ever more refillable versions, not only from organic labels, but also form the more exclusive cosmetics brands: refill versions of Guerlain, Serge Lutens and Kjaer Weis are almost affordable.

Send Plastic from the Beach backVDMI 20Jahre Masterbatch
to the shower Beaches strewn with plastic waste are not only unsightly, marine life also suffers immensely. Procter & Gamble is involved in the fight to reduce waste on our shores by using beach plastic to manufacture shampoo bottles. Head & Shoulders bottles produced with 25% plastic recovered from beaches have already been on sale in France since the summer of 2017. By the end of 2018, P&G plans to increase the share of bottles containing plastics recovered from beaches in Europe to 90 percent.

VDMI 20Jahre MasterbatchTake film out of the fields!
The recycling of agricultural films would save the equivalent of 2,762 tonnes of CO2. This corresponds to the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by new vehicles by driving 19 million passenger kilometres. The calculation is based on the amount of agricultural film that was collected and used by the ERDE collection system (Recycling plastics Germany) in 2014. A total of 2,170 tonnes was processed into regranulates.

This needs to be brought to attention: Coca-Cola caps are NOT WASTE! Stabilo uses the plastic caps from PET returnable bottles to make highlighters. As they are collected as a single-origin item, the recycled plastic is entirely equivalent to a crude oil-based plastic. A sustainable basis for the “Green Boss”.
